If you’re a smartphone nerd, you’ll be disappointed by Apple’s failure to include iPhone 11 battery size and RAM specifications .
Knowing that the iPhone 11 Pro’s battery lasts 4 hours longer than the iPhone XS is fine, but it’s not the same as being able to compare phones from different brands. Fortunately for us, government regulators have processes in place to uncover these facts.
Although precise battery capacity and RAM numbers have previously been speculated, Chinese regulator TENAA has now released the complete technical specifications for the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max on its website (via 9to5Mac).
These listings show that the three iPhone 11 models have 3,046mAh, 3,110mAh, and 3,969mAh batteries, respectively. This is a 168mAh, 408mAh, and 695mAh increase over the corresponding iPhone XR and iPhone XS/XS Max versions from last year, which range from a small improvement in the case of the iPhone 11 to a major increase in the case of the iPhone 11 Pro Max.
According to our iPhone 11 review’s battery test, the 168mAh boost is insignificant, with the simple iPhone 11 lasting about the same amount of time as the iPhone XR: 11 hours and 20 minutes. The iPhone 11 Pro had a battery life of 10 hours and 23 minutes, which is 40 minutes longer than the iPhone XS, and the iPhone 11 Pro Max had a battery life of 11 hours and 44 minutes, which is an hour and 6 minutes longer than the iPhone XS Max.
Samsung’s Galaxy S10 lasted 10 hours and 35 minutes, the S10 Plus 12 hours and 35 minutes, and the Note 10 Plus 11 hours and 9 minutes, all in contrast to other phones. So, although the rise in Apple’s battery sizes is slight, it still manages to keep up with its key competitor.
TENAA also announced the RAM that each iPhone 11 comes with, a number that Apple never mentions. All three versions have 4GB of RAM, which is the same as the Google Pixel 3’s but falls short of several competitors (including the Pixel 4 if you believe the rumors).
Many other Android phones have 6GB or 8GB RAM, like the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus and the top edition of the OnePlus 7 Pro, but raw power isn’t all. Apple has shown that it is capable of manufacturing excellent phones with limited quantities of RAM.
